Keep the SF Twin Peaks Pink Triangle illuminated all year
Keep the SF Twin Peaks Pink Triangle illuminated all year
Why this petition matters
As the sun rises over the blissfully calm city, I make my way up to Twin Peaks every Pride Saturday where every year about 100 volunteers lay a pink painted canvas in the giant shape of the Pink Triangle, a symbol used by the Nazis to label members of the LGBT community. This year marks its 25th anniversary. It has since been adopted and appropriated by the community as a symbol of Pride and self-identity. For me, the essence of Pride is about honoring our past, our history, and the struggle of those who came before us to pave the way for us to achieve equal civil rights. The Pink Triangle symbolizes that and so much more.
This year, the triangle will be comprised of LEDs by the same creatives who installed the Bay Lights. We petition to keep the Twin Peaks Pink Triangle illuminated every Saturday throughout the year and help our city show that it is a beacon of hope, positivity, and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community.
