In light of the largest single immediate threat of this century (CV-19) and recent government guidance to stay at home in order to protect the NHS and others, we are astounded by the reckless and contradictory advice of Gas Safe Register, who seemingly are willing to risk the lives of the public and their own members, by insisting on landlords safety certification to be valid with no extensions of dates, despite the fact that in order to achieve this,  engineers are required to visit multiple homes per day and tenants are required to allow access. In context, car MOTs have been extended, as have most gas manufacturers service periods.  

Gas Safe Register exists to protect the public, the current advice is at best naive and in our opinion reckless, which is compounded by the fact that gas safe have suspended their own inspections and closed their offices to ‘protect staff’ however are insistent in adhering to the cp12 dates which in reality means putting the general public at a greater risk of transmission. As a registered engineer for many years I am very disappointed that paying members and their family’s who want to do the right thing in this time of national emergency, are being forced into continuing with non urgent jobs, therefore putting lives at risk by the very institution formed and paid by ourselves to protect lives
