Why this petition matters

Started by Célina R.

On July 13th, 22 year old trans woman, Marilyn Cazares was found dead in a abandoned home set on fire in Brawley, California. She has been disrespected by multiple news outlets, all refusing to identify her as a trans woman. On top of being misgendered in mass media, the police still have not yet concluded that her death was a hate crime. Brawley Police Department is currently investigating this incident as a homicide. Marilyn is one of the 20 or more Trans and non-binary people that have been killed this year. This has to stop. Sign and share this petition to hold her killers accountable in the highest degree of the law.  Now is the time to continue fighting to protect the lives of the trans community especially trans women of color due to the astounding presence of transphobia in minority communities. Please take this time to honor and remember Marilyn and the many other trans woman who fell victim to transphobic violence.
