Last year, The University of Alabama in Huntsville became a real life underdog story. The team was about to be disbanded due to a lack of funding thanks to the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, a petition that received over 7,500 signatures in less than a week, followed by a fundraiser where the community came together to raise $500k in less than 5 days, and the team was able to perform another season.

Now, the team is in good standing. Donors have dedicated $17M over the next 10 years to support the team. The coaching staff includes stars from UAH's best days, and despite losing a significant portion of the roster to transfer, the team managed to have a better season than previously. While things are certainly looking up for UAH, the fight is still not over.

UAH is still currently without a conference for this upcoming season. Now that the WCHA is being disbanded, coach Lance West and AD Dr. Cade Smith have set their eyes on the Atlantic Hockey Association. While the AHA have said that they will talk more about this over the summer, no definitive answer has been given yet. That's where this petition comes in.

No one is expecting this petition to be the sole factor that causes the AHA to accept UAH. However, fan participation is certainly going to be part of the decision. This petition is here to show that not only does it matter to UAH, but to the hockey community as a whole that the AHA grants UAH one last chance for the team to survive.
