Why this petition matters

Started by Omar Alexander

The Qualified Immunity Act of 1967 allows law enforcement to beat and murder African Americans and Latinos in America without prosecution or accountability. This law allows judges the freedom to allow law enforcement to interpret the law as they see fit and garners their protection while wearing their badge. The Qualified Immunity Act also protects the cities in which law enforcement commits these crimes against humanity, not allowing families to sue the city for wrongdoing in criminal and civil complaints.
“Protect and Serve” does not exist in the African American communities across this country. We can change that this year! This is an election year, and we can champion this Federal law to be repealed in every state.
The Qualified Immunity Act was enacted approximately 6 months before they passed the Civil Rights Act in 1968. The Qualified Immunity Act is another way officers “justify” murder in our communities, and this law should be overturned immediately. We’re not asking our elected officials  to SUSPEND this law, we are asking them to represent us in abolishing this law permanently. Prejudice has no place in our Judicial System. Sign this petition and let’s get to work!
