Why this petition matters

Started by Joel Furth

Over the past year or so, Manhattan Beach, CA has had its typical sodium streetlights replaced with glaring new LEDs. Frankly, these lights are far too bright for residential neighborhoods and are quite painful to stare at directly. The intensity of these lights at such late hours cannot possibly be good for residents. Personally, one of these blinding lights shines directly in my backyard and only blackout curtains keep the light from disturbing me at night.

These lights not only disrupt the circadian rhythms of both humans and animals alike, but ultimately cause more light pollution than their sodium counterparts.

CNN has said so.

Harvard has too.

The solution to this problem is clear: revert back to the orange sodium streetlights that have been commonplace for so long in order to ensure the health of our residents.
