Why this petition matters

Started by Liyana Helmy Had

There have been numerous studies on the impact of COVID-19 to pregnant women, including higher risks of complications on the mothers and the newborn babies. In addition, a recent UK study suggests being positive COVID-19 around the time of birth may increase the chance of stillbirths and premature births.

In our own country, we were recently saddened by a posting from a frontliner regarding a stillbirth of a COVID-19 patient who is 30-weeks into her pregnancy. And we keep on hearing of new cases among pregnant women every single day.

Despite the heightened risks and more frequent cases, we are yet to hear from the Government on plans to vaccinate pregnant and breastfeeding women. The only information provided to us was on 17 May, regarding suitability of each type of vaccine for us.

So what are the next steps? Do we wait for Pfizer? When will it be? But MySejahtera questionnaire does not ask about pregnancy and lactations, does the Government know how much to allocate for us? Should we just sign up for Astra Zeneca? The list of questions goes on.

Dear fellow mothers, fathers, uncles, aunties, brothers, sisters, family, and friends...

This petition is intended to urge the Government to provide us more information on vaccination plan for pregnant and nursing mothers. Your support is very much appreciated. We all have one goal in mind, that is to reach herd immunity and end this pandemic.
