Why this petition matters

Started by Marija Grbic

Alan O’Mahoney has lived on the same road in North Kensington for the last 47 years. Following the death of his mother from Alzheimer's (during the middle of the pandemic), The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea council has tried to evict him from his home and move him out of the area, far away from his close support network of friends and family. Alan was a devoted son who was caring for his mother every day (she suffered with Alzheimer’s for more than 10 years). Prior to this, he was working for the Council for more than 20 years but quit his job to look after his mother.

We are all very concerned for what the future holds for Alan and especially so as he already struggles with depression and various health issues and during these challenging times, this is placing enormous stress on Alan.

We are petitioning The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council to offer Alan permanent tenancy locally in the close vicinity of his current home. This is where his support network lies and this has been his home his entire life. Alan has amassed a huge number of friends in the area through walking his dog at the local park and always being on hand to help neighbours both young and old in the community. He is a strong pillar in the community and to move him out of the area would be extremely distressing and cruel, leaving Alan completely isolated and lonely.

The council has received many letters of support for Alan but these have been ignored and they are still not giving Alan a decision on his tenancy and are dragging out this very stressful situation for him. Thank you all for your kindness and support and together we can be the voice that stands up for our wonderful Alan, the special gem in our close community.
