Secularism is the greatest threat Maldives is facing since we became a democratic country in 2008. New freedoms and rights that came with it have been abused in the name of freedom of speech. Mohamed Nasheed has been openly advocating for a secular Maldives and the need for an Alternative narrative other than Quran and sunnah since he came to power. On different occasions he has spoken against the commandments of Allah and his prophet Muhammad (saw) such as the death penalty. 

 Atheists and secularists spread on mv social media openly mocking our religion, and was becoming a daily norm. Failure of authorities to act abruptly to stop this led to the people taking laws in to their own hands. 

The amendment to the chapter 120 of the Maldives constitution by adding the article 124 (secular bill) is a clear attempt at criminalizing Muslims right to call out secularists and atheists for what they are. We as Muslims must call for good and reject evil as our religion calls for it. Failure to act now might ruin Maldives’s unique identity of one people one religion which has been protected by our fore fathers for hundreds of years.
