Why this petition matters

Started by Marie Malecki

There is a protest regarding the over development of an 0.83 acre parcel of land located at 2001 S. Riverside Drive in Edgewater, Florida. Environmental groups, businesses, and residents claim that the city is ignoring the Land Development Code, Coastal Element, and Indian River Lagoon Management Council to allow an oversized restaurant/marina, bait shop and retail store to be built in an inadequately sized parcel of land. Because this parcel is too small, the city is preparing to allow the developers to utilize a public right of way for their dumpster and three huge retention ponds to meet their waste water management needs. The right of way will be transformed into a parking lot and delivery lane for the developers as well.

Additionally the city is waiving the 50 foot required setback from the river, allowing the restaurant to be built within 15 feet of the Indian River. Environmentalists are concerned about the negative impacts on the already imperiled Indian River Lagoon, which is one of the most biologically diverse estuaries in North America. Local residents are concerned about this oversized marina, restaurant, and bait shop, due to excess traffic, noise and light pollution, parking issues, and the disruption that a huge complex would create. This is a quiet completely residential community.

The building of structures on the Boston Road right of way will create hardship for the residents who live on the Boston Road right of way, seriously limiting their access in and out of their property and threatening emergency access when needed.

We are petitioning against the overreaching development being proposed, which includes a perpetual lease of a public right of way, to the owners of 2001 S. Riverside Drive.

I oppose the over development and rezoning of 2001 South Riverside Drive in Edgewater, Florida. The ASKI redevelopment project should only take place on the property purchased, and should NOT include the Boston Road Right of Way!
