Why this petition matters

Started by Restoration of Human Rights (ROHR) Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe the rule of law has become non-existent, citizens are terrorised, beaten, abducted, and killed by the government of Emmerson Mnangagwa. Citizens are not safe to express their opinions as the Constitution of Zimbabwe upholds in Section 57 through to 62 for freedom of expression and media. As citizens of this great nation we call for the regional community and the international community to hold Mnangagwa and his government to task over the detailed abductions, beatings, unlawful arrests, and killings committed under their watch and by the state security forces.

As Restoration of Human Rights Zimbabwe (ROHR), we have put together a comprehensive list of the crimes against the citizens committed by the government. From the year the government took office to date. There have been at least 50 murders, 30 abductions, 50 rapes, hundreds of arbitrary arrests, and thousands of beatings by the security forces.

As an organisation we want the regional and the international community to hold the Government of Zimbabwe to account. This petition will call for the attention of the governments and organisations that Mnangagwa and his government are approaching for assistance. This government has committed crimes against its people, and it seeks to cover up its crimes.

''The power of the Universal Declaration is the power of ideas to change the world. It inspires us to continue working to ensure that all people can gain freedom, equality, and dignity. One vital aspect of this task is to empower people to demand what should be guaranteed: their human rights.'' Zein Ra'ad Al Hussein - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The Government of Zimbabwe has blatantly ignored the tenets of the Universal Declaration of Human rights which state:
