Why this petition matters

Started by ADAM COENIS

On average, about 28 million people visit Michigan's state parks each year.  These parks include campgrounds both upper and lower peninsula along with famous destinations such as Sleeping Bear Dunes, Pictured Rocks and Tahquamenon Falls. If these parks are bringing in this many visitors they need to be updated and properly cared for.  Facilities such as bathrooms and showers need to be better maintained, parking lots and boat launches must be renovated.  Recreational equipment in the form of basketball hoops, playgrounds and kayak rental should be made available.  With the addition of these amenities, Michigan state parks will make for an ideal vacation spot.  Also, the COVID-19 pandemic has created a sudden urge for people to be outside in nature.  The state parks of Michigan have never been busier; with that comes proper care and maintenance.

Signing this petition will bring attention to the Michigan officials with decision making power to enact change.  Our goal is to reach people such as Governor Whitmer and those in the Michigan Legislature.  The DNR of Michigan is also a source we are hoping to attract the attention of.

Our state parks need to be looked after.  The natural beauty Michigan state parks have to offer is what keeps people coming back.  The more of a crowd there is though, the more it must be taken care of.  In order to preserve the delicacy of the great outdoors and these famous destinations this must be done.  Do your part in saving the Michigan state parks.  Sign the petition!
