Why this petition matters

Started by Sara Guagnini

Wars and ecocide are increasingly pushing people from Africa, Middle-East, and Asia to flee in search of survival. On this current background, the Convention of Dublin is obsolete and it is putting unpleasant pressures on already problematic countries such as Italy and Greece. With this petition, we EU citizens want to ask our Prime Ministers to support a revision of the convention for which asylum seekers will be equally redistributed among EU countries through a new EU Institute for migration. We want to see an EU that respects its basic principles: shared responsibilities and solidarity. If states invoke the financial solidarity of other countries, they cannot refuse solidarity for the issue of migrants and if they do so, we do not want other nations to suffer for their egoism. There is no such thing as refusal when it comes to showing solidarity to other EU countries. All we ask with this petition is to stop obsolete legislation and to respect the principles on which our union is based on.
