Ermin Bektasevic, our friend, neighbor, colleague and humanitarian was detained by immigration and his deportation is imminent. 

We, undersigned here would like to petition to his immigration officer and immigration judge in his case to give him another chance and allow him to stay in the US and join his family. All of us who know him, one way or the other, can attest to his good nature, stellar character and outmost regard for others.

Ermin and his family have contributed a great deal to our community at large and are one of the most active volunteers and donors to various charitable causes. Law-abiding citizens, Ermin, his wife Alma and their two daughters ages 19 and 16, deserve a chance at American Dream as they are the epiphany of one. Escaping the war in Bosnia, they found their second home here in New York as loyal and model citizens. Their moral character and integrity are values that we look for in every American. If given the opportunity, Ermin can continue being an exceptional citizen, and a great member of our society and this great country.

He has always inspired those around him. His positive energy, a smile on his face and willingness to lend a hand to others have made him one of the most beloved members of the greater Bosnian and Balkan community.

His generosity knows no bounds... He was always first when a community choir needed funding and uniforms, he participated financially and volunteered physical labor when several community centers were being built. Ermin was the one who started many of the humanitarian relief programs, whether it be for sick children and orphans, student scholarship funds for the underprivileged, or hungry kids in Africa. Everyone that knows him, knows him as a great humanist who brings out the best in people around him.

We are appealing for his release and the opportunity to legally settle his immigration status in the US.
