Why this petition matters
Started by Sean Scott
With the long overdue completion of the West Thames Street Pedestrian Bridge, the NYC EDC plans to demolish the existing Rector Street Pedestrian Bridge.
https://www.nycedc.com/project/west-thames-street-pedestrian-bridge
While no one would argue that the addition of the West Thames bridge will add value to the Battery Park City community, the Rector St bridge is used every day by BPC residents to easily access the 1, N/W/R, or 4/5 subway stations. Demolishing this bridge will add additional, unnecessary time to their daily commute and cause many residents to choose a less safe path across the highway, which has a history of being a dangerous pedestrian crossing.
Let's let the city know we'd like to keep this bridge around indefinitely!
