Why this petition matters

Started by james gonzales

As long as I can possibly remember, music has been my favorite type of entertainment, self expression, coping mechanism - it applies to everything in my life. That led to me wanting to learn guitar, but it took a few years before I realized what my dream guitar would be. While visiting a friend they showed me a tour documentary called 1994: The Year That Punk Broke, and while I’d been a fan already, it was the first time I’d seen footage of Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. playing live. Immediately when I saw Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo’s Jazzmasters I popped up and demanded to know what that guitar was. I may have disassociated. It was no more complicated or time consuming than that - instantly I knew that for me, that was the coolest looking guitar I had ever, and to this day, have ever seen, and I’ve been a loyal customer for Fender since.

somewhere down the line, I saw a Jaguar with block inlays and neck binding and felt the same way I did during that Sonic Youth performance, only intensified x100. Lake Placid Blue with a matching headstock, those big pearl block inlays and the stark white neck binding, it was BEAUTIFUL. Sadly, by the time I even found out these guitars, their price on the used market took them entirely out of my realm of possibility, and every few months I get further and further away from ever getting a chance to own one.

I created this petition to lobby Fender to produce and release a 1966 reissue version of both the Jazzmaster and Jaguar. Their current ‘reissue’ offering is already so intensely close to what those guitars would be, already having neck binding and pearl dots… Not only would it bring to fruition my desert island fantasy guitars, but it would allow Fender to release a new model in their line, but without a ton of complicated or stuff differences. Simply install (the proper sized) pearl block inlays instead of pearl dots and BOOM, there you go, these guitars would join every other model in having more than a single option for a vintage styled/reissue guitar (the Telecaster has 2/3 different American Original versions, and the same goes for the Stratocaster and both bass models).

I know I’m not the only one who sees this variant of these guitars as their favorite entry in their history, so I’m hoping those customers will join the effort to show Fender that there’d be sustainable demand for this (very easy, in my opinion no-brainer) variation on what they currently offer for either of these two guitars. I’d do mostly anything for a Sherwood Green or Lake Placid Blue Jaguar or Black or Inca Silver Jazzmaster with a matching headstock, blocks and binding on the neck, etc. and I feel confident in saying that, yeah, so would a lot of other people. I’d buy one of each at preorder!
