Why this petition matters

Started by Ra-Twoine Fields

With your help, we are demanding the release of all inmates with current marijuana charges that match the new decriminalization law. There is no logical reason inmates should remain in prison when only a difference in dates would determine their current sentences.

On July 1, inmates who were arrested and convicted with up to an ounce of marijuana should be released with no fines, time served and an expunged record to match the new law approved by Northam.

“The new law, which takes effect July 1 if the General Assembly agrees to technical amendments proposed by Northam, reduces penalties for offenses involving the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana to a civil violation, which means no arrest and no criminal record.”

New Law: lis.virginia.gov

VA, especially in Richmond, also plans to benefit and profit from the new laws and medicinal (soon to be recreational) cannabis by opening several dispensaries throughout the state. This is vile and evil. Our loved ones should be free and allowed to continue their lives BEFORE businesses profit and people benefit.
