Why this petition matters

Started by Commemorate George Floyd Stamp Committee

Commemorative stamps primarily feature American subjects, especially if the subject has a “significant impact on American history, culture, or environment.”  George Floyd's death represents an event of historical significance because this stamp will commemorate the positive contributions made by millions of Americans who, in reaction to his death, have demonstrated for change.  These demonstrations have and will continue to affect our “American life, history, culture, and environment.”

We the undersigned urge the United States Postal Service to issue a commemorative stamp honoring the Black Lives Matter movement and bearing the likeness of George Floyd.  His death sparked a massive nation-wide reexamination of race relations and the role of the police in its interactions with black citizens of this country.

The Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee criteria are met for the issuance of this commemorative.

The Citizen’s Stamp Advisory Committee requires nominations to be received by mail so this petition will be referenced in a writing and mailed to Stamp Development, Attn: Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee, 475 L’Enfant Plaza SW, Room 3300, Washington, D.C. 20260-3501.  You are encouraged to sign this petition and mail a personal nomination to the Committee.
