In the wake of the murder of George Floyd, many people are looking towards our local and state governments for reform and new legislation.  George Floyd died from a knee on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones proposed a bill that would ban chokeholds, other high risk detainment techniques, and issue reform in police departments in Baltimore County. Why stop there?

This campaign's goal is the implementation of a statewide ban regarding police use of choke holds and other high risk detainment techniques.  The Maryland State Police Sgt. Marc Black said, “use enough force to overcome force we're meeting." regarding to the mindset of approach of Maryland officers.  In order to protect the health and safety of ALL Marylanders, all choke holds must be banned so that it is never an option for police.

Regional states like Delaware and Pennsylvania have already banned choke holds, and Maryland needs to follow their steps.  Maryland is often a leader in the region and should not fall behind in human rights and racial equality.
