Students at Queen Mary University were misled into moving into University accommodation. We were promised blended learning, meaning that we would have some in person contact hours on our course. We were also told that this would increase later in the year. Sadly the reality for students is very different. We were shuffled into accommodation and many students were told that they would be restricted to online learning. With repeating lockdowns and restrictions in London and the rest of the UK, many students were either trapped without human contact in their accommodation or are now unable to even access their rooms. The UK government has told students to not risk lives and stay at home, therefore we should not have to pay full rent for accommodation many cant access on a half functioning campus. All in in a time of financial hardship for students and their families!

Our demands:

1. A 30% cut in rent.

2. No penalty early tenancy release clauses for all students from their rent contracts

3. No disciplinary action against rent strikers

4. Increase the support the university can offer students in Qmul halls of residence: Allow students alone in halls to form support bubbles. Sufficient food, laundry and post for flats in Isolation. Better mental health support.

5. No job losses for staff working in halls or teaching.
