GMC/AMC to accept 6.5 in academic writing for registration for Foreign Medical Doctors.
Why this petition matters
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic writing score of 6.5 is an enormous stumbling block for a number of foreign medical doctors on their journey to GMC (General Medical Council) and AMC(Australian Medical Council) registration.
A number of good doctors are left out because of missing only 0.5 to achieve the desired score of 7 in writing required for AMC and GMC registration. Most of them take the exam over 5 times and are only frustrated with the same result of 6.5 in writing over and over again.
I would humbly request the AMC and GMC to consider a writing score of 6.5 in academic IELTs as appropriate for International medical graduates .This will help the Councils not to miss out on otherwise intelligent doctors who may not score the desired band 7 in academic writing. Additionally, I believe 6.5 in writing is a satisfactory score for a medical doctor.
Thank you.
