A number of cities across the UK are starting to face up to their histories and change names of buildings, streets and statues across Britain that commemorate men who may have been philanthropists, but also owned and traded slaves, Glasgow needs to join this effort and remove Glassford Street.  

John Glassford of Dougalston and Whitehill (1715 – 27 August 1783) was a Scottish Tobacco Lord, considered by his contemporaries to be the greatest of the era. He owned tobacco plantations in Virginia and Maryland, as a result, his name is synonymous with Glasgow's link with the slave trade.

 In modern times this should not be memorialised and celebrated in the city by continuing to be a major street in our beautiful city centre.  It's time to join the rebellion and not celebrate those who subjected people into slavery and have Glasgow City council change this street name.
