Why this petition matters

Started by Cristina Vitan

We are concerned supporters, residents, past and present parents and former students of Rumboldswhyke Infants’ School in Chichester.

We are shocked to hear that the local council wants to close this amazing school. We have found the school to be a fantastic, nurturing and safe environment for our children to begin their school education.

We demand that the school remains open in September 2020.

Just prior to the end of the last school year it was revealed that the school had been given an ‘inadequate’ Ofsted rating, however this was predominantly due to administrative issues. The new Head Teacher and her team have resolved the key administrative issues raised by Ofsted and are progressively tackling the remaining issues.

Since the beginning of this school year, plans were disclosed by West Sussex County Council, for the closure of the school by 31 August 2020. Housing in the area is increasing rapidly so closing Rumboldswhyke Infants’ School doesn’t make any sense. This will only exacerbate the strain on the remaining schools, the majority of which are already at full capacity.

Rumboldswhyke school is an environmentally friendly school where children from the community are able to walk to school. It encourages child exercise. Closing the school will have a negative impact on the environment and children’s health.

Rumboldswhyke school has been serving our community for over 135 years. This wonderful and nurturing school has now suddenly been threatened with closure with little warning or explanation.

A public petition has already gained large numbers of signatures.

We need your help to keep our school in our community by giving the new Head Teacher and her team the chance to bring the school back up to the outstanding level it was previously, by keeping Rumboldswhyke Infants’ School open.
