Why this petition matters

Started by Families for Justice as Healing

Raymond Gaines has been trapped in prison for the past 44 years. He was wrongfully convicted of First Degree Murder and Armed Robbery in 1975 and has maintained his innocence throughout his incarceration. His family and friends are calling for his case to be reviewed and Raymond to be released so he can live out his elder years at home with loved ones. If Raymond is not exonerated, he will die in prison serving two life sentences without the possibility of parole.

Raymond was investigated and pursued by notoriously racist Boston Police Detective Peter O'Malley. Raymond was not at the scene of the crime and was arrested in Iowa months after the incident.  He was given a new defense attorney only twenty-five days before his trial. Then Raymond was found guilty at a jury trial.

Raymond appealed his case and was denied. But recently he received exculpatory evidence that he and his loved ones believe will finally clear his name so he can come home to his two daughters, seven grandchildren, and circle of supporters who have never given up on him.

Raymond's beloved community asks you to please sign and share this petition to demand that the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office review this wrongful conviction and the state court allow a motion for re-trial for Raymond Gaines. We are sure with new evidence he will be found not guilty and finally be free!
