Started by Classic Rock 98.1

On January 7, 2020, Neil Peart, longtime drummer/lyricist for the iconic Canadian rock band RUSH, passed away after a battle with Glioblastoma.

Peart was a husband, father, and friend to many - but it was his ability behind the drum kit that would change the world.

Known as 'The Professor', Peart built a reputation over the course of decades as one of the best time keepers in the history of music. In 2016 Rolling Stone magazine ranked him the 4th on their list of the '100 Greatest Drummers' of all time. He's had numerous accolades over the years that includes an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with bandmates Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson in 2013. Not only this, but along with Lee and Lifeson, Peart was also made an Officer to the Order of Canada in 1996. All 3 were also inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. The list goes on and on.

With all of this in mind, who better to have on Canada's $5 bill? The Bank of Canada announced they are looking for a new face for Canada's famous blue note and will begin the search in the weeks and months ahead.

It's hard to deny Peart's impact on the world, so let's put him on the pedestal he deserves!

We here at Classic Rock 98.1, in London, Ontario, purveyors of all things RUSH/Peart, believe it's genuinely the right thing to.
