Why this petition matters

Started by Greening Stoga Task Force

Greening Stoga Task Force and TESD Green Initiative aim to eliminate the use of Styrofoam from the T/E School District cafeterias and replace it with compostable alternatives.

Why?

Styrofoam poses both a health risk to our children and to our environment.

Styrofoam is used in every TE township school (K-12). This consistent exposure to Styrofoam has health implications for students who use it, and continued production of Styrofoam allows it to migrate to the air we breathe.

Additionally, Styrofoam takes 500 years to forever to biodegrade, which means ample time for wildlife and oceans to suffer its negative effects.

OUR GOAL: Replace the Styrofoam with better alternatives.

Compostable tableware is available through TESD’s current supplies distributor: we want the district to explore this option, and consider using compostable products over Styrofoam.

You CAN make a difference!  We need YOUR help!

1. SIGN and SHARE this petition! Doing so will show that the community is interested in fixing this Styrofoam problem.

2. DONATE to the GoFundMe to help with purchasing non-toxic materials for the school: our goal is $5 per family! Only $5! Please donate more if you are moved J

Join us at the School Board Meeting on Monday, Aug 26th at 7pm, @ Conestoga High School.  All public who live in the district are welcome to attend.

Also, lookout for reusable lunch containers for students to bring to use in the cafeterias instead of Styrofoam tableware.  NO TRASH is even better than compostable trash!

Note: TESD already has reusable trays and working dishwashers, but lack the staff to run this operation.
