Why this petition matters

Started by Ryane Panasewicz

Due to the CoVID-19 Crisis, hospitals are closing their doors to students and we are unable to fulfill our hour requirements, which could prevent us from graduating and licensing at the completion of our program.

The California Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) has strict clinical requirements for nursing students- 75% patient contact and 25% classroom, simulation, and skill labs to be eligible to sit for the licensing exam at the completion of a nursing program.

We are senior nursing students writing this petition that are in the last semester (16 weeks or less) of becoming licensed, bachelor's trained nurses. This also affects our underclassmen that will be delayed in their pursuit of a higher education and meaningful employment.

As senior nursing students, we have been extensively trained for the last 19 months. We are ready to pour our skills, knowledge, and hearts into the medical community.

We need the BRN to soften their restrictions and provide an alternate solution for the clinical hours to the thousands of student nurses that are impacted by this crisis.

The fate of our future employment lies in the hands of those at the BRN. We desperately want to partake in alleviating the nursing shortage in California.

Our heart's desire is to care for those in their most vulnerable state.

Please join us and sign this petition to mandate the BRN to find an alternate solution to our clinical hours so we can achieve our dreams and desires, and be the next wave of licensed nurses in 12 weeks.
