Concessionary memberships for people who receive PIP at Live Active Leisure Trust
Concessionary memberships for people who receive PIP at Live Active Leisure Trust
Why this petition matters
Live Active Leisure, the Perth and Kinross Leisure Trust, currently do not offer concession memberships to those in receipt of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)/ Disability Living Allowance (DLA). Despite currently offering discounted memberships to those on other types of benefits.
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a benefit for people who have extra care needs or mobility needs (difficulty getting around) as a result of a disability. PIP is replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for people aged 16-64.
We have had ongoing conversations over a number of months with Live Active Leisure who for the time being do not accept PIP/DLA as a valid benefit as it is not means-tested; even though those in receipt of the benefit have gone through testing for eligibility by the government.
We already know that this policy has had a negative impact on individuals in the MS community who have been unable to access the leisure trust following a prescribed exercise due to cost. This will not only impact people with MS but anyone in receipt of PIP/DLA in Perth and Kinross looking to access the Leisure Trust’s services.
We call on Live Active Leisure, again, to include of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)/ Disability Living Allowance (DLA) as one of their accepted benefits for concession membership.
