Bridlington Echo campaign to stop the closure of RBL Alderson House Poppy Break Centre
Bridlington Echo campaign to stop the closure of RBL Alderson House Poppy Break Centre
Why this petition matters
As part of a strategic review from Royal British Legion HQ, Alderson House Poppy Break Centre (and three others in the U.K.) has been earmarked for permanent closure.
Around forty full and and part time staff, plus many dedicated volunteers, are employed at the South Marine Drive Poppy Break Centre in Bridlington, East Yorkshire.
The Bridlington Echo newspaper has been a great supporter of the popular Centre and had recently raised £75,000 to fund a minibus for use by visitors and local RBL club members.
The Centre is also a well used hub for service group meetings, fundraising events and the hugely popular Armed Forces Day.
Over the years tens of thousands of veterans and their families have benefitted from a holiday break based in the lovely seaside town of Bridlington. Staff go above and beyond duty to make the visits as memorable as possible with trips out, entertainment, plus the chance to sample the wonderful food provided by the catering staff. It’s no wonder many guests refer to it as a 5 star ‘home from home’
We are asking that the National RBL reconsider this move and keep the Poppy Break Centres open and able carry out the fantastic work they do.
Thank You. Bridlington Echo
