Why this petition matters

Cape Zircon is applying for rights to prospect and eventually mine (among other things radioactive Zirconium) on the extremely vulnerable west coast of the Western Cape in South Africa near Lambert’s Bay like i.e. Tormin just to the north of the Olifants River mouth.

Mining and its related activities will surely bring about irreversible damage. Not only to the endangered fauna and flora, but also to utterly scarce water resources of the area and its agricultural activities as well as to the very unique ocean ecosystems bordering the set out area. If you’ve seen my Octupus teacher, this is what is in danger along with hundreds of people dependant on fisheries.

These radioactive metals and minerals and silica will impact our very clean air too, resulting in numerous diseases whilst we’re caught in a pandemic with CoVid-19 which have already crippled our tourism industry. Mining will only add to the death of our economy as resources do not circle back into the local communities.

The research provided by Archean Resources is not thoroughly done and if this is the start, the end is near.

Please support the people from the Matzikamma and Cederberg municipalities by stopping this!!
