Why this petition matters

Started by Ryan Stafford

Lee County public school tracks are funded by public tax dollars and currently do not allow the community to access them. I would like community track hours to be implemented where local runners and people in general may access the tracks to exercise. Currently there are elementary, middle, and high school kids running on the streets and in neighborhoods where they and their parents are hoping they don’t get hit by a car. There are more than 10 public school tracks in Lee county that should be able to be accessed during certain times for kids and the community as a whole. Florida as a state has recently been deemed the most dangerous state in the country for pedestrians. Allowing the community to access the public tracks they already fund could cut down on these fatalities dramatically. Besides saving lives, allowing young kids and adults on the tracks can also help them get closer to their goals in the sport and allow them to represent Lee County on a national level.
