Why this petition matters

Started by Shilpi Sureka

I have stared this petition so that it can reach the education department of West Bengal to curb the malpractices of Private Schools who are charging exobirent fees and increasing the same without intimation every year.

My children are in Class 3 and Class 1 in a private school in Kolkata, West Bengal. The school is a trust under the brand of a big business house. It is quite reputed and is one of the leading schools of Kolkata.

The fees however is an issue. The fees  at the time of my elder child's admission and the fees as of now has increased manifold. They have made different categories for charging fees from parents like computer fees, co curricular fees, stationery fees, session fees and tuition fees and keep increasing the same every year without information.

I fail to understand a few things like;

1. Why is session fees charged every year. Is It a kind of re admission fees?

2. We buy stationery from school authorised vendor than why are we paying stationery fees to school again.

3. There are again separate charges and after school class for co curricular activity than why are we paying to school. Shouldn't it be a part of tuition fees?

Other than these we also have pay something or the other to school via cheque or via cash.

The school website shows list of Parent Representatives but no one knows about them nor can other parents reach them. They are more of puppets in the hands of school authorities.

Please sign this petition so that requisite number of signature are received and it can be forwarded to the concerned authorities so that they can inspect all private school fees structure and curb malpractices.

I have not disclosed the name of the school as it is not limited fo 1 school but schools all over West Bengal.
