Why this petition matters

Started by HomeComing Foundation

Thousands of South African children continue to be exposed to hazardous & illegal conditions due to the lack of sufficient sanitation infrastructure. We need to the Department of Education to give us a transparent plan and timeline on their efforts to eradicate pit toilets in schools all over South Africa. This petition cries out to all South Africans to take the future of schools into their own hands to ensure change and the improvement of scholar lives.

We implore the South African government to release the progress reports on initiatives such as Sanitation Appropriate for Education (SAFE) and the allocated R3.4bn and it's usage to date. Along with this the report on the R256m that the private sector had pledged towards safer sanitation in schools.

Furthermore we implore the government to recommit to safer sanitation infrastructure in schools by end of 2022 as had been promised by the Department of Basic Education.
