Why this petition matters

Started by Melanie Jackson

As I’m sure most of you are aware the good people of South Yorkshire have been affected by devastating floods over the past few days. The community spirit shown by all has been outstanding, overwhelming and heartwarming. However, they have been let down massively by the current government.

How the Prime Minister doesn’t see that “danger to life” floods and huge scale destruction is a National Emergency is beyond belief! Not to mention that further flooding is expected so an already terrible situation will become inconceivably worse.

The current and impending situation is quite obviously a national emergency which is proven by the fact that our Army has been in attendance. There is no question that Mr Johnson should declare this a national emergency so the areas affected will qualify for the Bellwin Scheme like they did back in the 2007 floods. The scheme will provide funds for people to start rebuilding their currently obliterated lives. It will not solve all their problems but it will be a HUGE step in the right direction.

Please PLEASE sign and share this petition to make the powers that be rightly declare this a national emergency and get everyone the help they deserve. Thank you
