Why this petition matters

Started by Edward Jiang

For the 2018-19 academic year, Dean's List was awarded to any student who achieved a combined GPA of 3.7 for the fall and spring semesters, provided that during those two semesters, he or she has:

(1) Completed 6 or more credit units for letter grades (2) Received no grades lower than C (3) Completed all courses on time with no Incompletes, NRs, or GRs.

The removal of Dean's List for the 2019-20 academic year would be a great disappointment to Penn students who have dedicated efforts to their academics in these difficult times.

While "there will be a notation placed on every undergraduate’s transcript to recognize and honor the extraordinary disruption to the Spring 2020 term..." (Provost's Email, April 9 2020), many students who have taken 6 credits in the Fall, are recruiting/applying to competitive graduate programs, have maintained a Dean's List equivalent all 4 years, or have worked hard to achieve Dean's List for the first time, are frustrated that their efforts this entire year will be left unrecognized.

Thanks for your time, Penn. Stay safe.
