As part of the organisation BEAT ( Bolton Environmental Action Team ), we want to take the steps in our town to reduce climate change in our area. We firmly believe that more needs to be done in Bolton to aid the planet and the changing climate around us. An article has shown that Bolton is on the cusp of breaching dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide levels, mainly from vehicles. (https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/greater-manchester-pollution-charging-zones-15319275 This is alarming as we realise that slowly but surely climate change will affect us all- whether we see the effects now or not. It is clear that air pollution is only one of the presidential issues in Bolton regarding our environment.

In terms of facilities and technology, we need more. We think the Bolton Council needs to take further action to create a cleaner climate. We would like the Bolton council to consider implementing the following:

1. Introduction of Bolton electric buses- as well as being better for the environment, each bus has the potential to take as many as 55 cars off of the road, reducing congestion, saving fuel, and significantly cutting emissions. (https://advanced.edu/buses-help-environment/
2. Air pollution monitors- Automatic monitors that involve the use of electronic monitoring instruments capable of giving almost real-time concentrations of pollutants. They run continuously and store results. This can help to create a record of Bolton's changing climate. This is strongly needed because of the reason mentioned above about how Bolton is on the cusp of breaching dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide.
3. Invest in active travel infrastructure and quality public transport- More journeys should be encouraged to be taken by foot or bike. This can be done by improving cycle lanes or having more rental bikes available for the public, all over town not just in town centres, in various places.
4. Introduction of reverse vending machines across town - a machine where people can return empty beverage containers like bottles and cans for recycling. The machine often gives back a deposit or refund amount to the end user. This can help to reduce plastic pollution and litter, increasing the pride we have in our town.

As a group of young people, we believe that we are the future and we need to take the steps to improve it. We believe climate change is a serious issue and we want to improve it in Bolton.
