Why this petition matters

Started by Christopher Dunn

We the Dunn family, descendants of the Great John Robert Dunn (white Zulu chief), a son of an 18 century Scottish settler who was rewarded with Chieftainship land, cattle and Zulu maidens to be his wives by Zulu King Cetyswayo, are now facing large scale land invasions occurring in our farming community of Mangete KZN(North) South Africa.

Chief Mataba was instrumental  in causing wide spread havoc, killings and fear, causing many Dunn families to flee their farms in the late 70's early 80's, claiming that Dunn reserve 7A was tribul land which belongs to himself as Chief and his displaced tribe members, whilst illegally and forcefully placing his clan on Dunn farms.

The Dunn's Decendants association then took Mataba and his claimants to court,  Mataba's claims were found to be false and unsubstantial, which led to the Durban High court issuing the Dunn's with a High Court Interdict in 2002.

The Dunn's then tried to enforce the interdict of which it was stoped by Mataba, Department of Land affairs and the local Mandeni Municipality. They then formed Bhekhamafa trust and 300 hectares of Dunn land was purchased through a willing buy willing sell negotiation, a further R14 million was paid into the Bhekhamafa trust account to be used for the resettlement and development of housing for the claimants.

To date, not a single claimant has been moved off the Dunn's land nor any ressetled on the 300 hectares purchased for them, what happened instead, the 300 hectares of land purchased for Mataba's and his claiments has grown to over 900 hectares and currently all this land is under sugar cane, the R14million has simply disappeared without a trace.

We have been threatened intimidated with our lives, our crops are constanly burnt out and to make matters worst we see almost everyday, new homeless people invading our land, in some instances sugar cane crops have been cleared to make way for illegal structures and buildings.

We have had no help from our local Mandeni SAPS refusing to arrest new invaders to a point of them issueing us with an affidavit stateing that there is no tresspass law in South Africa anymore. We have had high ranking SAPS members and governmental officials invading our land as well. Our local Ntunzini Chief magistrate has informed us that his courts only deal's with violent crimes and not tresspass.

The municipality has also been contributing to our problem by erecting pit toilets and installing illegal electrical connections after us having numerous recorded meetings with them instructing them that the Dunn's land (reserve 7A) is private property and that all projects must be stoped.

All our cries for help have fallen on deaf ears and have been fruitless.

Will you help us by signing our petiton to get our President Cyril Ramaphosa's attention to 'STOP" this injustice we are facing...?

It's our constitutional right!!!

Our petition demands is as follows:

1) We need the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform  to acknowledge our concerns, address and resolve our issues with in a reasonable time frame.

2) We request that the land purchased and allocated for the settlement agreement and currently held under the Bekhamaffa trust to be made available to the claimants immediately.

3) We request all new/old illegal buildings structures to be demolished and removed.

4) We request to be compensated for the loss of income for the past 20 years ,since the date of inception of the settlement agreement.

Thank you and please help us by signing  sharing this petition for this matter to be addressed immediately by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform
