Why this petition matters

Started by Natalie Ann

Oxfordshire County Council have been failing many families for years. My son is 10 years old and in a mainstream setting but struggling. His needs are not being met and he requires a special school setting for secondary school. He has a long list of issues that are making every day life unbearable. These include: sensory issues, unable to regulate emotions, low self-esteem, major anxiety that triggers auditory & visual hallucinations, suicidal thoughts, no social skills, has no friends, and reading, writing & spelling age of a 6 year old. Yet the Local authority refuse to except he needs a specialist  school and that his needs can be met in mainstream.  Not only this but the extreme lengths of delays in the LA actually issuing a final annual review, has meant delays in our right to appeal. This has increased the impact on both my sons and I mental health. The system is not fit for purpose. Constantly ignoring families and destroying lives. We call for change, we call for the LA to do their job properly, which is to support and protect societies most vulnerable children and young people.
