SIV Immediate-family inclusion
SIV Immediate-family inclusion
Why this petition matters
We, the signers of this petition humbly ask that the United States, the greatest force for FREEDOM on Earth use its mighty force to RESCUE EVERY SINGLE PERSON AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO SERVED AS A TRANSLATOR for the US Armed Forces. The United States promised ANY who served for a period of initially 2, then 1 year would be provided a Special Immigration Visa (SIV). What has transpired is a humanitarian crisis of unimaginable calamity and existential suffering.
These brave and courageous men risked not only their OWN LIVES, but also the lives of their entire families—mother, father, sibling, spouse and child. While the West has rules of war, the Taliban has NONE. Their sheer disregard for life and morality shocks us to our core—they can not be God-fearing men to act in such a fashion against fellow Muslims.
The Taliban has made it their number one priority to seek and destroy ANY and ALL who helped the US Military. Where they have jurisdiction, they go from house to house with alarming vengeance—This is TERRORISM.
The SIV process DOES NOT SERVE either the US or applicants — the process TAKES TOO LONG. While Kabul is expected to fall within 30 days, the 14 step SIV process takes up to a year(?) to process. Additionally, even if the visa is approved, when the Taliban do finally seize control of ALL OF AFGHANISTAN, how will they get out? Airline companies will not run their services with the Taliban in control as airlines will lose their insurance—
Finally, while Iraqi interpreters were allowed to bring their definition of family—mother, father, sibling, spouse and children, Afghanistan Interpreters are NOT—How is this FAIR? How can we expect de facto Americans to leave their parents, their siblings to suffer at the whims of The Taliban? What kind of life will they have once they do settle here, constantly worried about their families in their land of origin?
Americans, you are blessed beyond imagination with freedom, abundance and the opportunity to strive for the American dream—Afghanistan Interpreters are only seeking safe passage and a promise kept. They took the greatest and ultimate risk for the American dream—we only ask that the US keeps its promise. For it would take so little for the US to keep its promise—only a desire to do so.
We again humbly ask that the greatest country on Earth, The United States of America protect Kabul, change the SIV law so that Afghanistan interpreters can bring THEIR definition of family—and most importantly remain in Afghanistan until NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND.
May God hear our prayer and find grace in the hearts of the President, VP, Congress and America. If not, may God have mercy on Afghanistan—for she needs it most of all—
