Objection to DA 09/098 1579 Botany Rd, Botany

Currently the site operating hours are: 6am -10pm (high flow pumps (6am-9pm) – Giving just 8 hours of reprieve from the impact caused by the station. If this application was approved, the hours of operation would be extended and there would be NO reprieve from the petrol station, 24hr fuel deliveries and only 4 hours rest from the high flow truck bowsers.

There is no residential area that would actively welcome 24hr fuel deliveries and B Double trucks onto their front door step. How “the owner has identified a need to further adjust the operating hours” as stated is also questionable. Let's show our council this is NOT what we want!

The DA acknowledges “the area has consequently shifted from predominantly industrial and employment uses, to more residential in nature” which is a large part of why the local residents have objected. The large trucks, noise, vibrations, pollution and traffic that would otherwise not be passing through Botany if they were not going to the site is evident to local residents. The negatives associated with extending these trading hours far outweigh the positive of being able to buy an ice-cream at 3am in the morning.

While no local residents have actually stated they require a 24 hour petrol station in Botany (only businesses that were requested by the owner for support have stated this, of which only 1 is a local resident) many have stated that the current trading hours of BP already impact them negatively. It impacts in terms of trucks waiting to enter the station stopping illegally in front of residents homes while waiting to fill their tanks. Trucks blocking the entry and exits to Livingstone Ave and Tupia Street. The vibrations caused by heavy vehicles. The carcinogenic pollution these large trucks emit. The noise that is caused by these large vehicles with air brakes, noise caused by car horns, screeching tiers of “car enthusiasts” and the sounds of 5 Harley Davidson motorbikes revving after filling with fuel. All of this diminishes the amenity of the local area, to extend this operation 24hrs would be a disaster!
