Please support laundromat workers, workers who are employed in businesses with less than five employees to be included in New York City Paid Sick law.

In New York City, many retail laundromat workers are excluded from the Paid Sick Law, which requires employers to pay employees when they take time off due to illness. Every day, a retail laundromat worker must decide between working sick or staying at home without pay. Staying at home without compensation is not an option. The majority of laundromat workers decide to go to work being sick. With the arrival of the COVID-19 and the impact that has had on many New York Families, now it is the time and duty to extend Paid Sick Leave to retail laundromat workers and other excluded workers. Every employee-no matter the size of the employer should have the right to Paid Sick Leave. The lack of paid sick leave disproportionately affects low-wage workers and women. More than half of the 1.24 million New Yorkers without paid sick leave are in the bottom wage quartile, meaning they earn less than $22,000 a year. Faced with the fear of losing their job, or not being gable to bring home a paycheck to feed their families, these workers are too often forced to go to work sick, risking their health and the health of those around them.

Retail laundromat workers are the mothers, the fathers, the families who are part of our communities. The inclusion of retail laundromat workers and other workers will help protect those vulnerable workers from retaliation when they decide to take a paid sick leave. We demand paid sick leave for all workers NOW! Please call Mark Levine and Corey Johnson and ask them to include retail laundromat workers and other workers into the paid sick law now.
