Prof Jane Hutton, UCU-nominated director, has been removed from the USS Board.   Jane, who is an internationally recognised expert and professional statistician, brought to light significant failures in the governance of USS and the 2017 valuation process that led to an overestimation of the projected scheme deficit.

UCU members remain grateful to Jane for her work, and condemn the manner in which her suspension and subsequent removal have been carried out by the USS Board. As UCU General Secretary Dr Jo Grady notes, "... We have concerns about how the whole process has been conducted, especially as Jane Hutton was not given proper access to all the evidence used against her, nor afforded opportunity to appear before the Board to peer her case. We now call on USS to release the evidence in full for us all to study..."

We renew our members' call for the removal of Bill Galvin (Group CEO) and Prof Sir David Eastwood (Chair of the Board). We remain deeply concerned about the lack of transparency and accountability at the top of USS.

We call upon all USS employers to join UCU in holding USS to account for this appalling treatment of an expert whistleblower.
