This petition is to start a discussion and show governments across the world that we need to increase funding for scientific research as it is crucial for the future of humanity.

The human species is currently facing one of its greatest challenges: Covid19. 

Covid19 is first and foremost a health crisis. Hundreds of thousands of people have died, many more have been seriously ill. This toll will continue to rise. Additionally, the economic consequences are impacting the physical and mental health of those who are not directly infected with Covid19.

The frequency of pandemics and the rate they spread across the globe has been increasing. Recent examples include: bird flu, swine flu, SARS, MERS, Ebola, Zika.

Over the last few months, countries have committed a substantial amount of resources in search of a vaccine. However, once (if) we get through this pandemic, it is clear that there must be additional funding for scientific research.

This year (and potentially subsequent years) the world is not praying for divine intervention. We are praying that somewhere in a laboratory, there is a scientific breakthrough and a scientist can create a vaccine.
