As you may have read in the media, an increasing number of NYC public schools are putting together plans on how to offer more in-person instruction for their students. This model shift would likely be effective as of our Jan 4th return. 

This will affect your child’s learning in all cohorts - blended and all remote. At the moment, there are 2 proposals for PS 41 Q on the table that would allow for our blended students to have access to more in-person instruction.

• Model 1 B: This would consolidate the 3 Blended Cohorts into 2 Blended Cohorts, allowing the children to attend an additional day of in-person learning per week, in most cases. (https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-year-20-21/return-to-school-2020/school-schedules)
• 5 Full Days for some students:  This would allow some students, at parent’s request and school’s availability, to attend school 5 full days a week. (https://gothamist.com/news/schools-update-de-blasio-says-more-nyc-public-schools-will-be-going-five-days-week)

We believe that going to a 5 day a week model would have serious implications for all of our students - blended, fully remote, and special education.

Currently, our school is 58% fully remote and we feel that this model does not have their best interests in mind. In addition, it would cause inequities for our special education students. Remote special education students could be left without teacher coverage due to a 5-day model shift.  And finally, in-person learning would be subpar for some students due to using spaces not intended for learning. Staffing changes are highly disruptive to the children and make an already trying time, even more, difficult for our kids.  

We are asking that the district entrust our principal to make the decision on what is best for our community.  Our principal knows and understands the needs of our unique community. 

The decision is on the table at this moment and we would like to encourage you to have your voice heard as soon as possible
