The state of Texas is facing unprecedented challenges due to a historical freeze causing many residents and small businesses to be left without power such as lights, gas, and water. Texas reigns as a leader in the production of solar, wind, and energy yet its independence from the US source of power put many lives in jeopardy even causing 77 deaths and over 5 million households to be without these necessities. So far, all assistance for the Freeze Relief has been centered around water drives. Our communities in Texas are in need of immediate assistance and relief from their utility bills by those who are responsible for the management of the disaster relief funds that will be released to the state as a result of the Major national disaster declaration given by President Biden. With that said, we the citizens of Texas are demanding that the lights, water, and gas bills be canceled and or paid in full by the State of Texas for the month of February which will help household budgets during this time of unprecedented economic downfall due to Covid 19.

Why is this important?

The Freeze Relief in the form of cancellation of February utility bills or payment of all Texas residents' lights, gas, and water bills by the State will provide a high level of relief for Texas residents as we struggle to recover from this natural disaster. Already residents have received light bills in excess of $1000’s of dollars for their electric bill for a disaster they didn’t cause, contribute to neither could they control it. Currently in Texas, FEMA is offering water and few generators due to the freeze however devastated communities and residents should be relieved from the burden of paying utility bills they did not foresee coming. We understand FEMA is also offering Small Business Loans for relief for those who are qualified, however, we are calling on Texas Congress to provide payment in full or complete cancellation of all Texas residents lights, water, and gas bills caused by the Freeze because many households are left without the ability to pay these excessive bills and because they were without these services for an extended period of time.
