Why this petition matters

Started by Ryan Van Vliet

As of February 14th 2020, parking at the Rubble Creek trailhead is no longer available.
The road is only plowed for a short section and new "No Parking" signs have been installed along this plowed section, where hikers and skiers were previously parking.
No other parking alternative is available, effectively eliminating winter access to Garibaldi Lake.

Last week I was at the lake and people were very frustrated at the situation, and most of them ended up turning around and going home. Groups included everyone from locals to a group of 6 disappointed tourists from Germany- not very welcoming for a province looking to promote itself as a world class outdoors destination.

Instead of putting up no parking signs, let's work together to get the parking lot plowed and accessible year round.

Update One:
BC Parks previously applied for funding to plow the road for this season, but their request for funding was denied.
The UBC Varsity Outdoors Club, FMCBC, and ACC are all working with BC parks to find a solution.
Let's keep up the momentum and make sure everyone is aware of the number of recreational backcountry users that this parking ban is affecting!
Update Two:
BC Parks has announced one-time funding to plow to the parking lot! There is still more work to do if we want this to happen every year but it's a perfect start.
