Why this petition matters

Started by Marijuana Matters

Governments supplement their budgets from cannabis-related revenues while brothers and sisters who supplemented their budgets from cannabis-related revenue are incarcerated and have to withstand life long and devastating collateral consequences.  No one should be locked up for marijuana and no one should have their lives ruined for marijuana.

ADVOCATES/CONSUMERS HAVE THE POWER TO DEMAND AND ENSURE SOCIAL EQUITY IS IN THE FOREFRONT OF ANY EFFORT CANNABIS DESCHEDULING OR LEGALIZATION.

TAKE THE CONSUMER SOCIAL EQUITY PLEDGE

I am concerned about the impact marijuana prohibition has had on communities of color. I recognize that too many people have had their lives ruined and communities destroyed by the collateral consequences of the war on drugs.

I agree to take the following actions:

I pledge to utilize my power as a consumer to purchase cannabis and cannabis-related products created, manufactured and produced by social equity certified companies;

I pledge to support local social equity applicants seeking cannabis licenses by calling, writing, emailing and talking legislators;

I pledge to share my support of social equity by signing the public pledged to proudly share information about how I’ve exercised social equity in my daily experiences.

I pledge to support consumer marketplace pressure campaigns, by joining in boycotts, emailing/writing campaigns in support of social equity within cannabis.

By signing the social equity pledge I’m sending a message to all that I support strategies, policies, and practices that prevent the further marginalization and isolation of individuals from communities disproportionately harmed by the discriminatory criminalization of marijuana.
