Why this petition matters

As part of the criteria to migrate to Canada, one needs to take a compulsory English language test, one of which is IELTS either by IDP or British Council.

There are four modules to the test, which are 1. Listening 2. Reading 3. Writing and 3. Speaking . The listening and Reading bands are objective, while the writing and speaking are subjective (prerogative of the examiner)

The highest band score in each module is a band 9 and the Canadian immigration requires a minimum of 8 in listening and then 7 in other bands to be able to at least compete in the express entry pool. It has been observed that many test takers fall short a 0.5 band in the subjective parts of the test, especially in writing. It is not out of place to see Results like 9 in listening, 9 in reading, 6.5 in writing and 8 in speaking. A result which is far better than the usual 8777 required by Immigrations in Canada.

It has become a menace amongst test takers, and they either have to part way with more money for a remark of their writing module, which is a 50-50 chance or take the very expensive test again and again. No guarantee of not failing the writing again, regardless of how one achieves the task.

In light of this, I urge people to sign this petition to ensure the Canadian government reviews their CLB equivalents for writing to 6.5 to be equivalent to CLB 9 and 7 to CLB 10.

Thank you
