Renaming Colston Hall to The Keith Tippett Hall / Centre
Why this petition matters

Hi Louise,
Having still trying to come to terms with the loss of my dear friend and mentor Keith Tippett(s). I cannot think of anyone more fitting for the hall’s name change especially given he is Bristol born.
As you undoubtedly know through hosting events in the past of his. Keith was a purveyor of inventive arts and in particular equality and was instrumental in supporting South African musicians such as:
Dudu Pukwana, Mongezi Feza, Harry Miller, Jonny Dyani, Louis Moholo-Moholo and Chris MacGregor during the apartheid. Keith and other jazz musicians of the late 60s had these musicians play on their recordings and take part in concerts.
I was deeply saddened last year when Keith’s health took a turn for the worst and of course recently where multiple health problems led to him being in hospital. His passing is something that many of us who were educated and inspired by him are starting to come to terms with. The legacy he leaves with us incredible and the well known names that he has helped develop through the years I’m sure would also support my email.
I once promised keith that I would hope to return a favour in all the good he did for me and others. He was extremely gifted in improvisation and composition. He had an ear that was open to sound and the hearts and minds around him. He was the ultimate Mujician (as his daughter Inca once said when she was young).
With all of our past colonial mistakes now being considered for retiring we look to people like Keith for inspiration.
Keith this is Dedicated to you, and I was listening. RIP
I hope that this finds you all well and I would certainly love to hear your views,
Sincerely
Luke
