Restore Native American-focused television to Los Angeles
Restore Native American-focused television to Los Angeles
Why this petition matters
FNX, First Nations Experience is the first and only national broadcast television network in the U.S. exclusively devoted to Native American and World Indigenous content. It started in 2011 and became available to PBS stations via satellite three years later, at which point KLCS (channel 58) began airing it on one of their subchannels.
During the FCC-mandated "spectrum repack" of 2018, KLCS began sharing the transmitter of KCET (channel 28) and dropped FNX due to a limit on the number of subchannels both could air simultaneously, opting instead to keep the PBS Create network. However, this year KCET also started airing PBS Create, resulting in needless duplication and potentially making room for FNX again. However, neither station has responded to requests to reconsider the 2018 decision, even when it has been pointed out that they are licensed "to serve the public interest" and that as public broadcasters they should be more diverse in their programming.
This petition is to urge KCET and KLCS to restore FNX to one of the duplicative subchannels airing PBS Create and provide this unique Native American and Indigeous People's programming over the air again.
